This has probably been discussed, so please don't flame me just because I am not as crazy a Wheel of Time follower as you are...
I noticed that Egwene uses need in The Gathering Storm, chapter 38, in Tel'aran'rhiod. She goes first to the Tinker camp and she's like, "what the heck? why am I here." She finds it odd that there is a fire in TAR.
Fast forward to Rand. The Gathering Storm, chapter 49. Rand spends the evening in the tinker camp outside Ebou Dar.
Does that answer the question? I don't know the timeline. Maybe what Egwene needs most is Rand and TAR was showing Egwene where Rand was.
