How does that fit into Fortuona's POV of Galgan executing everybody who names a price for an assassination attempt on her? I know that the innkeeper in Mat's first MOL chapter tells him that, but can we be sure that he knows everything?
I always read this as he is killing anyone else who is trying to kill her off because if anyone is going to succeed it will be him. Basically he's ridding himself of rivals and in a strange sense is upholding his own honor by executing traitors, despite essentially being one himself.
