Rand only has one hand now, and he plans to wield Callandor to SG. And since the circle they are planning for would not have Rand in control, the only weapon he would have is stabbing things with the sword shaped Callandor.

Odds are he has just asked Tam for some lessons in fighting one handed. He mentioned to Bashere when he originally lost his hand that he would have to learn how to wield the sword all over again, I figure that (or atleast the basics of it) is whats happening here.
