Things have no worth if you don't have a chance earn it. Rand just wants a chance to be normal and live his life the way he wants to.
I appreciate the irony of saying that about a man who was just handed enough gold to set him up in his homeland for life and a sword of untold worth but I think Rand has earned a little kickstart to his quiet life.
