Unfortunately you refuse to see that not everyone's purpose is fighting. Sometimes it is necessary to have someone to enable an important character to get to the point where he's needed or to fulfill tasks in the build-up.
Also, the world doesn't end with the LB, there are important tasks to do now after it has happened and a world needs to be rebuilt.
