IF the Power truly was intended to be Thought/Will based, then the changes make perfect sense and are consistent with established canon. This seems like a very RJ-like twist/backstory to me, with the OP really being the Creator's will, while the True Power is the Dark One's (which may actually itself be a subset of the Creator's, see Rand's reforging of the prison.)

You feel let down because you've read the accounts of POV characters as infallible technical specification, and this is clearly not a correct assumption.
