Because the examples of a weaker channeler actually defeating a stronger one in this story - certainly up to the point that RJ died - are virtually non-existent.

What else would you call Cyndane v. Alivia?
Egwene states that she could not hope to defeat Moghedien - the weakest of the Forsaken.

And then decides to set a trap that would force her to face Mesaana, a stronger Foresaken, alone. You give too much credence to the word of third-agers, who really don't know the actual abilities and skills of the Foresaken.
The fact is that strength has a much bigger influence on who would win a One Power duel - assassinations or unexpected attacks excluded - than you seem to give credit for.

It is undoubtedly a factor. But it most certainly is not the only factor.
