Here we have all the heights listed that I easily noticed on one pass through the Companion. There are some fairly curious omissions among the minor characters, considering who did get listed, but most characters do have their heights listed. In some places they are listed as between two one inch increments, and other times, down to the half inch.

What does seem rather strange is that several characters are mentioned as ten or eleven inches above a number of feet. In the world of Wheel of Time, one foot is only ten inches long. This means, that a character who is one inch taller than 5'9" should be six feet. I seem to recall Jordan stating at one point that their feet are the same as ours, so that means a WoT inch is 1.2" in our measurements.

When you do the conversions, suddenly some things make sense. A lot of inch measurements do not convert precisely. For example, 5 real world inches is 4.167 WoT inches, therefore it makes sense to says that someone who is 5'5" in the real world is "between 5'4" and 5'5"" Which leads me to wonder if Jordan had not fiddled around with doing conversions before giving it up and not bothering to be precise, other than making note of their sizes so he'd know how to describe characters' heights in relation to one another. I notice a lot of "stout" or "stocky" characters don't have their exact heights listed, such as Basel Gill, whom you would think would have been more significant and worthy of such details than, say, Morvin. Yet the latter has her height given and the former does not. I think it's because the PoV character would be most likely to describe Gill in terms of girth, rather than comment on his height. Also, he's almost never going to be making an impression of authority or command, so whether or not he can loom isn't going to come up.

I thought about numbering the levels, but the imprecision of some given heights renders it problematic. Which is to say, I was halfway down the list when I realized it made no sense.

The following list is by broken down by height categories, with Wheel of Time measurements, and the corresponding real world measurements in italics. Some categories are duplicated, because there is a difference in the given real world sizes. I assumed all listed heights in the Companion were real world. No italics means the real world and WoT measurements are the same.

The only liberties I took were with Someshta and Mangin. Mangin's height is not given, but he is taller than Gaul and presumably shorter than Bael. Loial is supposedly as much shorter than Someshta as he is taller than Rand, so I simply added the difference in their heights to Loial's. Mosk & Merk were probably shorter than the White Tower due to like, laws of physics & stuff.
