As long as whoever rules follows Rand at the last battle it should not matter. And I think that has already been made clear? So this whole Elayne arc is just... her personal development? Maybe not. I enjoyed some parts, but the whole of it just seems like dead weight for the series. Her mind is so messed up.
It may be central but it's still just one country. Why should it matter who rules it in the grand scheme of things?
