Never did like him. Wotmaniac Reborn Send a noteboard - 04/11/2009 05:19:30 PM

So Mat is deliberately leaving Moiraine for several more weeks in the captivity of the Finns. What a scumbag. Are there no limits to where this man will stoop?

"We can't go because...uh... we can't sneak away."

"Mat there's a ta'veren."

"Distract the men so we can sneak away."

When Rand, Egwene, Nynaeve, Elayne, Aviendha et al want to do something, they do it. Rand has to kill Graendal. Egwene has to unite the Tower. Nynaeve has to do.. stuff. Mat is just a whiney little boy who is STILL complaining about how raw his deal was. He's always been the worst of the ta'veren for me, and yet everyone likes him because he does heroic deeds. But he whines so much he taints the whole experience. What a child.

His "heroics" always seem to be the result of an external force (Pattern, ta'veren, etc). Yes, you can argue that that is the same for Rand and Perrin, but as we see in TGS, there is a why behind everything... Mat never really seemed to have a personal "why".

"I have to go to Rhuidean because the snake people told me!"

"I am great at battles because the fox people made me that way!"

"I have to go rescue Moiraine because it is the right thing to do and not because I should be grateful for all the good things she's done for me and my best friends!"

I forget, he does have one motivation: Bouncing plump women on his knee.

Never could relate to him.
