I think it's "guidance" coming from HER that many Rand fans object to. whitestar101 Send a noteboard - 05/11/2009 07:03:04 PM
I think it should come from someone older with more experience. She is neither and her condescending attitude toward him is irritating. Perhaps it's just the way I was brought up to respect your elders (granted two years isn't that much elder) and to treat others as you would want to be treated. If she would give Rand the same respect and dignity as she demands for herself then MAYBE her helping him wouldn't be so bad.

I always find it strange to read about so many Rand fans that take issue with the idea that he needs guidance. He's not perfect and for most of the series at this point, he's taken a steep dive toward insanity and tyrannical practices - I'm not sure why so many people want him to be the most powerful and unstoppable being ever, but I thought at least the things he said to Nynaeve and what he did before coming to his senses and realizing that, yes, he needed help and he could still be human in TGS was his acknowledgment that he did need guidance.

I completely agree, everyone needs someone to turn for help and Rand is far from perfect as every character is. I have no problems with Nynaeve, Caddy and/or Moraine (if they don't manipulate him) and now maybe Tam being the guidance Rand needs.

It's just peculiar to me that so many Rand fans like him throughout the entire series when I think it was intentional on RJ's part to show that this "Iceman" persona was a different and pathological personality type from who Rand was at the start of his journey.

Maybe some of us are just stubborn, and I knew the Shepherd was still there. He came out in KoD when he tried to save those young boys in Tear even though he knew doing so was futile. He was there to stop himself from killing Min and Tam.

I DO admit that reading his parts in TGS was painful for me. The last chapter brought so much needed relief that it became my favorite chapter just because of it.

I love you Rand.
