Didn't Sheriam's PoV suggest that she voluntarily joined because she'd been promised power and glory over others?


That's what I get for coming up with ideas at 4:00 A.M.
Yeah, I forgot about Sheriam's earlier pov, where it pretty much says she joined of her own free will. It was a nice thought though, since she was the one that told Egwene about the method in the first place, and now the revelation she's Black.


I can't believe that over 200 Aes Sedai decided to serve evil spontaneously. The numbers have always seemed skewed to me. That's like 20% of the Vatican being satanic... it strains credibility, even though it makes for a good novel. I can imagine the BA turning anyone who is strong in the Power or capable, which may explain why so many high ranking AS are DF's.


There are surely a few forced turnings, but I doubt that it's as bad as you seem to be implying. Given the old saying that power corrupts, I would think that those who channel would be more likely to be corrupted. Also, your metaphor is pretty flawed since most Aes Sedai seem to be more about themselves then about the Light.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
