Maybe Moridin did not have the ability to use the OP, so Rand could not have channeled through the balefire-link. Maybe Ishamael's ability to channel saidin was burned out when Rand cut off the black cords, and so he only uses the TP, and Moridin probably embraces the TP 24/7.
