Verin waited for Egwene, and couldn't time exactly when she would arrive, so my thought is that Tomas took the point first after a certain, generalized point in the day had passed (ie: "Early in the afternoon..." or some such) and when Verin felt him die, she felt it either while waiting or when she suddenly lost her strength and seemed to grow weak while telling Egwene about the book.
