I don't think the soul is destroyed, because in the Question of the Week, where we got the loophole about a small amount, there would be NOTHING for the Dark One to grab and resurrect. So the soul has to survive.
I think we are falling into a PoV trap. The charachters do not have the overall knowledge that we have.
