That is interesting that Sanderson said that

I agree that Mat will probably open the letter anyway after 30 days. But I think the letter will still have valuable stuff in it (such as where the Horn is) because Sanderson also said these letters will have great ramifications in the final 2 books.
I am very interested to see what happens though.

when I met with BS last night I discussed the timeline with him. I was specifically asking about when Mat's timeline ended (bascially when he travelled to Caemlyn). He said about 30 days before the end of the book (by Rand and Egwene's timeline). Then he looked at me and said, you do realize the significance of 30 days don't you?
So, Mat clearly waits the 30 days without opening Verin's letter. However, I'll bet afterwords, he does go ahead and open the letter at some point. But, by then it may not reveal that much.

Mat won't open the letter

Sounds like an Aes Sedai trick

Verin is one of the few Aes Sedai intelligent enough to pull off such a trick *NM*

If the Pattern requires Mat to leave before 30 days, then it will force him to.

Mat, by now, must have serious concerns about Verin being Black Ajah

I don't think Mat thinks that seriously about it, to be honest.

I highly doubt it... Mat has suspected other Aes Sedai of being BA before, namely Joline

Which is why I think Mat trusts her - they are both very similar.

So BS was saying that it was significant that 30 days had passed by the end of the book? *NM*

I am not sure if I am wrong on that... Look at Egwene and Nynaeve's early interogations of the BA
