I do think that the deck was stacked by the author in Egwene's favour, so to speak, with very convenient things like Elaida's deranged rant in front of the Sitters. But it's evident that Egwene contributes to the undermining of Elaida's authority, among other things through that very incident.

You're right of course that Elaida would've been captured in her sleep no matter what, but Egwene's time in the Tower was necessary to let her catch the eye of the Ajah heads, and allow her to be palatable to both sides once Elaida is out of the picture.

So I guess it depends on precisely what you're arguing - if you're saying it all went too easily and Egwene was written as if she was a big ta'veren, I quite agree. If you're saying the whole plotline was unnecessary... well, no.
