I have always thought that WoT should be animated,... *NM* lodlom Send a noteboard - 19/11/2009 11:10:32 PM
According to Brandon's Facebook page, he spent some time today talking to people at Universal about the planned WHEEL OF TIME movie.

I wonder what that's about? My first guess is that now that TGS has hit #1 on the NYT bestseller list and displaced Dan Brown, Universal have suddenly smelt some green and decided to press on with the project. To this end they may be talking to Brandon about perhaps coming aboard as an advisor/consultant (I guess they're not going to ask him to actually write the script, due to his busy novel-writing schedule and lack of scriptwriting experience, which they'd probably want for a big-budget event movie).

I've been pretty vocal in the past that WoT will not work as a series of movies. It's just not physically possible to make a series of films long enough to satisfy all the fans by including even half of the major plot threads and characters from the books. At the same time, a TV adaptation (as favoured by Robert Jordan) would seem to be out as being far too expensive.

We know that HBO are pouring *a lot* of money into the GAME OF THRONES TV series and that's for a series with relatively few special effects in its first season (mostly scenery work, with only some very brief use of CGI creatures). Contrast that to EYE OF THE WORLD where they will be needing Trollocs, One Power effects, cityscapes, Shadar Logoth and other effects-intensive scenes right from the very start.

My guess is that we are going to get some sort of heavily edited version of the WoT as maybe a movie trilogy, probably with the Seanchan and Aes Sedai civil war storylines removed and focusing almost entirely on Rand. Which could still be interesting, but probably not the more faithful adaptation I think the fans really want.
