That's an incredibly naive assessment of the Shadow's approach. Tom Send a noteboard - 26/11/2009 10:51:56 PM
Why would the Shadow just send hordes of Trollocs against armies of men? That makes little sense. The important thing is to defeat the Dragon. If the Dragon fails, the Dark One will be free to pick off anyone he wants to whenever he wants to.

As a result, the strategy has been to turn the Dragon to evil, just like in Star Wars, just like in the game of sha'rah. Given Rand's epiphany on Dragonmount, it's clear that that strategy has failed. As a result, the only choice left is to try to kill him.

This is where the Battle of Caemlyn comes in. It will seem like a straightforward battle. Evil will be "defeated" but the Dragon will be dying and need to do something in order to be able to rise again to finish the task.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
