Ultimately your potential determines your gateway size. Asmodean's statement that the Power only had to do with the making of the gateway is the most correct one.

You need a certain amount of saidin or saidar to create the weave and make it effective e.g. 20 saidin/saidar. After that, when the gateway opens, it will do so until it reaches your potential, or until you stop it. This explains why Rand can make many deathgates of the same size.

I do think that Talents and strength in Spirit allow you to open a gateway with less saidin/saidar e.g. 15 saidin. This would theoretically allow you to open more gateways e.g. deathgates, even though their size would be limited.


The fact that you reach your maximum gateway size some time BEFORE you reach your full potential. Unless Rand was already at his full potential when he made the gateway in FoH, which seems to be contradicted by our observations.
