It seems pretty clear from various Prophecies and his link to the Norse God Odin that Mat will lose an eye before or during his trip to Finnland.
Personally, I believe that Mat has to figure out that his left eye is the connection to the Eelfinn - he already mused about this in KoD - and therefore has to sacrifice it beforehand to make Moiraine's rescue possible (e.g. Egwene might give him clues, since she Dreamed about "Mat, placing his own left eye on a balance scale", or the foxhead medaillon might reveal it, if it only has a left eye).
However, if Mat loses an eye, he needs an eye-patch. Will Mat have a fancy eye-patch like Uno, which shows a bloody red eye? Or maybe another symbol like a lightning, a red-hand or a raven's eye? Or will he just have an unicoloured eye-patch, e.g. in black? (which would fit with the color of his hat and scarf; I think Odin is also mainly pitcured with a black patch).
