I think that in the end Graendal and Semirhage were there to show what Rand's mental state had become. Graendal especially and Semirhage to a degree though that they were dealing with hard but nice guy LTT all be it in a different body. They did not realise that Rand was now psyco LTT mixed with "life is pointless" Moridin and that caught them by surprise and they died for it.
