The Aiel had not been out of the Waste in more than 2000 years... how would they know what would be needed? Even when the Aiel left with Rand they left enough to run the infrastructure in the waste and that was with EVERY clan gone from the Waste...
To me it just doesn't make sense for only 4 to leave when its clear that honor is more important than anything to Aiel.

Perhaps they've not left the Waste, though the Aiel know a thing or two about the outside world. For example, they allowed merchants into the Waste, who of course carried word of the outside. Furthermore, the Aiel are known to skirmish with the Borderlanders from time to time - they undoubtedly learned of Wetlander tactics there.
The Aiel live a rugged and battle-hardened lifestyle; they've taken the art of war and made it into a lifestyle. They wouldn't march into such a battle ill-prepared.
Perhaps they assumed the Wetlanders would hand Laman over without much a fight (meaning the other nations wouldn't get involved).
Why did only 4 clans leave the waste?

Well when you think about it, four is still a substantial number.

It was still enough to deal with what all the wetlands threw at them.
