Re: Reread - Moraine, Lan, Myrelle, and Nyneave Great Lord of Chaos Send a noteboard - 23/02/2010 01:51:41 AM
I was going to reread the Wot series before The Gathering Storm came out but didn't get to it. I am now rereading the series and have a few questions, theories, and maybe answers to questions.

1. What is going on with Moraine and Myrelle vis-a-vis Nyneave and Lan? In The Great Hunt I didn't read that Myrelle accompanied Siuan in her trip to Fal Dara. Yet later Moraine was telling Lan that at Moraine's death Lan's bond will pass to Myrelle. In the Great Hunt Moraine said:

"Before we left Tar Valon I made arrangments, should anything happen to me, for your bond to pass to another. When you feel my death, you will find yourself compelled to seek he out immediately, I do not want you to be surprised of that."

and said

" If Myrelle can keep her three Gaidan in line, perhaps she has a chance to manage you. Though she would like to keep you, I know, she has promised to pass your bond to another when she finds one who suits you better."

than said

"It may be that Myrelle will find a slip of a girl just raised to sisterhood - was that what you said?- who needs a Warder hardened in battle and wise in the ways of the world, a slip of a girl who may need someone who will throw her into a pond."

This certainly hints that Moraine was preparing to pass Lan's bond to Nyneave.

In The Shadow Rising Moraine is thinking of the strings Nyneave had attached to Lan - I have done hat had to be done, there. She will have him if I die, and not before. Where is the man? What is he doing?

Clearly Moraine has made arrangements for Lan to be Nyneave's Warder after Moraine's death. However, Moraine has not visited Tar Valon since Lan and Nyneave met. I don't think Moraine has been close to Myrelle since Lan and Nyneave met. How did she know to pass Lan's bond to Myrelle?

She probably arranged the transfer before she left TV, and then wrote her a letter to give him to Nynaeve.

Also a good question why did Moraine decide to look for the Dragon in Two Rivers? If has been nearly 20 years since Gitara's fortelling that the Dragon has been reborn and Moraine started looking. Why would she look in Two Rivers for a baby only 2 people knew had been born (Tam and Kara)? Did I miss something?

Will of the Pattern.

I wonder if Moraine interpretted a prophesy, learned something from Min, or heard of a fortelling that would lead her to search Two Rivers and make arrangements for Lan.

See above.
