With this, you can throw out any suspects who were supported by the majority opinion.
So, the list can be narrowed down to suspects in the minority opinion at the time. But you have to be reasonable--i.e. no "Bela did it" theories.
I think this helps strengthen the case for Slayer, who was a minority opinion for quite a while.
I'm not sure how popular Lanfear was at the time.
Moreover, i think this weakens the majority's support for Graendal. IIRC Sammael was also initially widely theorized either with Graendal or independantly and those theories subsequently lost steam as his being "toast" was reinforced and accepted.
