bugs the hell out of me. Him thinking about how hard he is; how hard he must be/become; how much harder he is than he used to be.

It's not like I can't understand - he's been stripped of his identity, he's gonna go crazy, had everyone in the world try to use and treat him like a child, the Wheel depends on him, his opponents would destroy anything he cares about...

And still, it's tedious and annoying and kinda whiny and it obviously isn't a good coping mechanism. Even LTT is shocked by how stupid he's being! Also, it's kinda total BS since he has to keep a list of women who died for him (among other totally "non-hard" things he does).

Maybe it's a consequence of how long the series has taken to complete. Perhaps if this were only 6 novels, it wouldn't have come up so often...
