It does seem like an awful lot of effort to go to for one person, and the shadow seems to prefer to try manipulating people into doing what they want (ie Elaida) or killing people to stop them doing what the don't want (ie Herid Fel). If you turned a whole group of people though, that could make a much bigger difference. Imagine if Mesaana has been working away in the background turning all the novices of the White Tower to the shadow. It would fit her MO from the Age of Legends too.


I still don't know why she just didn't Travel to a certain meeting place as Rand was being transported, take Rand away to Shayol Ghul and order the Black Ajah to kill the other Sisters. Katerine Alruddin is nasty enough to do it herself. Mesaana could have then converted Rand forcibly or let the Dark One decide what to do. She came really close. Oh well.
