I thought the same thing the first time I read it, but when I reread I think it was more the shock of actually reading something new in the series for the first time in years.
It's a whole bunch of little things. The dialogue, the way the PoV character thinks, the way the character explains things directly that would have been referenced more obliquely and more smoothly in previous books ... it's just not the same. And I like it less and less the more I re-read it...
Yeah, I didn't find it as smooth. And Rand talked a little differently. It feels faster paced too. We'll see I guess
Just to be a little wacky, have we considered that this could be one of the portions of the novel RJ wrote? I don't think it is, but maybe we are just freaked out by new WoT material.
