The accents were awful there. I confuse the locals though. I look like an American and then I speak funny, it takes them by surprise

Listen, any one who doesn't speak Bama gets the startled look. It's because they barely understand English of any sort 
Edit: South Carolina is probably my favourite State so far. We went to Charleston which was a very nice town.
You need to visit the Nashville area sometime. I wonder how many of the tourist traps would you visit
