So the country people talk more like our US perception of the Australian accent while the city people talk more like real Australians I've met?

well I presume the real aussies you have met don't have that stereotypical accent Generally the country people do indeed sound more like the accent portrayed on tv.

Perhaps...I wouldn't know.
