I'm a very very angry capitalist butting in again.... saidin7 - 30/04/2004 06:43:53 AM

What did Castro do that was so wrong?

How about the fact that he's a communist dictator huh? Communism is a system directly responsible for the deaths of over 100 million to 300 million people, making it THE most evil and destructive political system in human history. (READ 'The Black Book of Communism' by Stéphane Courtois for an exhaustive analysis of communist crimes).

He did not overthrow a democratic government, like Pinochet did (and the latter was supported by the US). Hindering free speech and opposition is naturally not right, but it is nothing worse than what Batista did.

He's a DICTATOR Mierin. The left-liberal crowd is always protecting dictatorships that don't suit their own political ideology, but they're strangely silent when it comes to the communists. 100 million to 300 million exterminated under communism. Why was there not a peep of protest by lefties when all this was going on huh?

He created social services, public health, literacy increased to a very high level, improved life for his people.

Absolute baloney! Here's an entry on Communism from a recent FAQ:

Question: You must admit that socialist states provided free health-care, free housing, social security and jobs for all. And they did achieve equality. True?

Answer: Socialist states did none of these things. As economist Milton Friedman famously said: 'There's no such thing as a free lunch'. Someone somewhere is paying for it. Communist run services were financed through near 100% taxation.

The quality of communist health care and education was extremely low. The 'free' housing of the former Soviet Republics was shoddy and cramped and people had to wait for years before their entitlements were approved. The guaranteed 'jobs' were mostly 'pretend work', which created nothing of value. And the 'equality' of socialist states was a sham. The party ran the show and every one in disagreement with the officials could be imprisoned without trail. If you strip everyone of their rights they'll all be equal, but this kind if equality is hardly desirable.

The 'world class' health-care and education of communist Cuba was pure fantasy. Circa 2004 Fidel Castro was censoring Internet access for non-party officials, demonstrating that education in Cuba was of a decidedly restricted variety. As to Cuban health-care, there may have been plenty of doctors, but they were lacking in the most basic medicines and equipment.

Yet trade restrictions were put on Cuba, making Moscow the only thing propping up the country.

Damn right trade restriction were put on the place, and rightly so. No one should coperate with evil systems.

The only failure of the U.S was not invading that piss arse place. If I were President of the United States I'd be delivering bombs and bullets to Cuba right now.

You know the reason I don't visit wotmania much is because I blow my top nearly very time I come here and read the most idiotic, stupid baloney. Like your posts.

Let me give you some advise: try learning the rudiments of economics, politics and history before you start shooting your mouth off on bulletion boards huh?
