My favorite story in the collection... Jacob Send a noteboard - 30/04/2010 08:57:34 PM
After a little thought, I've decided which of the stories that I most enjoyed.

Uncle Chaim and Aunt Rifke and the Angel ~ Peter S. Beagle

Beagle manages the story with a great deal of style and skill. You can hear the voices, get a feel for the room, see the people and how they might gesture and move. He doesn't do it by telling the reader all this... his writing just has atmosphere and gravity. It is absolutely full of character.

I have a suspicion that it would be just as enjoyable to hear it read.

The themes and plot are deftly handled, and I think touching.

All in all, it was a remarkable short story.
