I really do think that the narrator is little more than a vehicle for Harkaway's prose for most of the novel. So while the novel is clever and funny, the narrator is not. You don't... warm to him. He's not the average joe, he uses his educated prose to denigrate other educated people AND maintain a degree of authority in his blue-collar company (and seemingly it is the only way he can do so since he is always overshadowed by Gonzo his love), and he keeps telling you the same thing over and over.

Until the twist, where you realise who and what he is. Or rather, when HE realises who and what he is. I stand by how clever that is. And I really wish I had not read that Gaiman and Pratchett.

But... he's not someone to warm up to. I need a character to latch on to when I am reading, or people - and the narrator gives me almost none.

Ah, I used all the minor characters for that. I usually do. Another similiarity to Buffy, if you will. Wu, Elisabeth, Elisabeth's mother, the Bey...

In the discussion I am going to talk about ninjas vs. pirates.
