Those sound cool... but I dunno if I got across what, exactly, I meant. beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 28/05/2010 09:26:32 AM
It doesn't have to be a "crazy" premise. Just... I dunno, a whimsical concept, looked at kind of seriously?

Harry Potter kind of started it for "magic schools," and others are fleshing out that concept. I liked Name of the Wind (although him constantly becoming rich and then losing his money was a bit irritating)

Animorphs took the idea of "what if kids who could turn into animals fought an invasion of body-stealing slugs?"

Lightning Thief had some interesting stuff about how being a demigod kinda sucks- you have ADD and dyslexia, and you're lucky to survive until you're 12.

None of those have a "barmy" (yes, DK, it's a pretty great word) premise, but I still really enjoyed the premise.

"Soon I Will Be Invincible" was a pretty great book that looked at supervillians.

"Narbonic" was an amazing webcomic that took the idea of mad geniuses, and ran with it.

(These last two aren't really examples of the "childrens books have better premises than adult books" thing, I've just sort of degenerated into talking about awesome things)
I amuse myself.

Just read The Lightning Thief, and I realized why literature often frustrates me. (minor spoilers) - 27/05/2010 07:01:05 PM 827 Views
