I sometimes wonder if the entire GoT Eddard story, ending included, was established to show how unyielding and inflexible he is, and thus explains later on why he didn't reveal the truth to anyone.

I wonder if Howland Reed also feels himself bound by this promise?


I think that's exactly why Eddard's story played out the way it did. I'm telling you, this had better pay off big :D

I've been wondering about Howland. I suspect he's bound by his own promise to Lyanna - I think he loved her very much (after the whole tourney at Harrenhal incident) and would have given her anything she wanted.

Pure speculation, of course.
