Sometimes it rubs me the wrong way and I'm disinclined to read the book, but when it's such a huge phenomenon (Sombra del Viento, Millennium-trilogy, Da Vinci Code, Twilight, Harry Potter,...) that you almost have to have an opinion about it, I'll read it as I want to have something to base said opinion on. Hyped books can certainly be disappointing, but then I usually don't have too high expectations, not unless they're widely acclaimed by more respectable critics as well.
Haha yeah. Drives me mad when someone goes on about how rubbish something is and then you find out they haven't even read the damn thing. Makes me want to slap them
