The Dark Tower is one of my favorite series of all times. Admittedly, that could be in part because I am old and I started reading King when there were only two books in the series released so much like people are waiting on GRRM to finish his series now, I was waiting on King. Little did I know it would take him 20 years to finish the series.
I'm glad you changed your opinion on King though. I am a huge fan of his and while he will never be considered a beautiful writer, he is an absolute master storyteller and many of his books are fantastic reads. Wizard & Glass, the 4th book in the Dark Tower series, is one of my favorite books of all time.

Agreed. The Gunslinger, for better or worse, is very, very different from the rest.

I'd say you should at least give the second book 100-150 pages or so before giving up. *NM*
