Focault's Pendulum has one side that is beautifully constructed and a bit like diving into a sparkly pool of historical trivia, and another that feels a little grafted onto that bit. I still like that bit, but the whole feels much more fragmented than The Name of Rose.

At times the story seems to become secondary to the trivia, which was my biggest beef -- LOTS of detail. But at its best there was really some good ideas and beautiful language going on.

Oh, yes. Always beautiful language. He has been good in his choice of translators as well. They don't translate word for word.
