If I had to guess, I would imagine the exercise of picking up someone elses characters, world, plot elements, has probably helped Brandon further hone his craft. In each of Brandon's novels, I have noticed further development and skill in his abilities to tell his story using a variety of different approaches. He has more control over the words on the page. He more fully owns the story... thus I think he gets more depth out of his worlds, characters, and plot.
Thematically, WoK is most certainly the continuation of Brandon's works... matured, more deftly managed, flowing out of the story rather than pressed into them.
So, I am sure that working on WoT has helped Brandon as an author, but I see that same growth through all of his work.
