This is my continuing problem with his books. He's got the story, and cool secondary world elements, but his characters always feel empty.
I felt that there were a couple good characterizations in both Mistborn and in Warbreaker. With WoK, Sanderson has created several deeper, complex characters. It is actually the strong point of the novel.
