That is quite shocking of them. Then again, maybe you shouldn't have broken away 

Whenever I think about it I decide either a) monarchy is a legitimate form of government and the rule was legitimate, if descriminatory against Catholics for the 17th-19th century, and thus rebillion was wrong, or b) monarchies are bad and unjust and we (ie the IRA of the 1910s) should have incited rebellion in England, Scotland and Wales and the whole of the former UK should be an egalitarian socialist republic. Either way something went wrong in the whole event.
