The American Civil War by John Keegan

Not read it yet so I can't tell you if it is good:P

He is a very good military historian - he's the Defence Correspondent at the Daily Telegraph and a bit right wing for my tastes in his actual opinions (he is a big fan of the Iraq war and thinks political solutions are over rated compared to going in shooting) but really knows his stuff.

Robert Graves "There is no money in poetry, but then there is no poetry in money, either."

Henning Mankell "We must defend the open society, because if we start locking our doors, if we let fear decide, the person who committed the act of terror will win"
