I'm still in the mood for thoughtful scifi.
Currently reading:
- Elisabeth Vonarburg - Reluctant Voyagers (very good)
- Michael Chabon - The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay (good, but not spec fic)
- also listening to Palimpsest by Catherynne M. Valente on audiobook (I hate it when the narrator does accents - inappropriately, badly, hard to understand. The only voice I like is when she does Casimira. That's how all the characters should speak - dreamily, singsong. And I don't mind Sei's voice at all. But thankfully there's little dialogue, and she narrates the text beautifully. And the book - ahh... I'll definitely be getting all of Valente's work on audio, I've wanted it since first reading it.)
Still Planning:
- Umberto Eco - The Name of the Rose
- Paul Witcover - Tumbling After
- Jeff VanderMeer - City of Saints and Madmen
Read recently:
- Robert Silverberg - Dying Inside (disappointing, hated the main character, he's so mean and unpleasant)
- Elizabeth Moon - Once a Hero (took a detour into military scifi; this was ok, but not as good as Tanya Huff's or Walter Jon Williams' stuff, and not as interesting as Code of Conduct which I read just before. I'm still going to read her Vatta's War eventually.)
- Kristine Smith - Code of Conduct (surprisingly very interesting and exciting document-chasing thriller)
