Hopefully they are, Ronja Rövardotter, Karlsson på taket, Bröderna Lejonhjärta and Emil i Lönneberga books are all great. There's tons of others too, I don't even know how many books she wrote overall.

The Brothers Lionheart is fantastic, but perhaps rather too scary for a five year old. Same with Kalle Blomkvist. Karlsson might work, besides Saltkrokan and the other series with all the boys and girls (no idea on the Swedish or English name).
