The other book I read was an alien invasion book where the ultimate hero was a five-centuries-in-hiding Vlad III Dracul; I almost threw the book across the room when I got to that part. 
The Passage isn't about Vampire vampires... more like Bat-like/zombie things. The story has a Fallout sort of feel to it in a lot of ways.
