That having been said, I would highly recommend reading books about the Sufis, since so much of Persian culture revolves around the poetry of Sufi poets like Hafiz, Rumi and so many others (I hesitate to start naming more names because once you name one, you feel you have to name another). I am about to start a new one by a guy named Seyyed Nasr called Garden of Truth and I will tell you if I liked it.

On Michio Kaku - he's a fantastic writer. I have his book on parallel universes. Greg (chorabliss/sleepneeded) recommended him to me.
