His characters are really wonderful through out the series he wrote. They should be read by any lover of historical fiction

I've read a bunch of naval fiction but I have never ever read one of O'Brien's novels- and I have no idea why.
I was just coming back to say that if you've not read naval fiction before, it might not be for you. I've noticed some people just don't enjoy it... but if you have then it is fine. You just need to fill that gap in your reading
