Its his least magical but I think his best all-round novel, although UNDER HEAVEN is right behind it. I also rate A SONG FOR ARBONNE and THE LAST LIGHT OF THE SUN. TIGANA I thought was good when I was younger but haven't read it in over a decade. THE SARANTINE MOSAIC duology is good but very quiet and thoughtful, more of an in-depth exploration of Kay's ideas which you may appreciate more if you're pre-familiar with his other books. THE FIONAVAR TAPESTRY I thought was very weak, despite some nice ideas.
Guy Gavriel Kay, some advice please

Re: The problem with Guy Gavriel Kay is that he writes at the highest dramatic pitch possible.

Let me detract from the unanimity and say I much preferred Tigana.
