I view it as being a natural development of a materialistic approach toward literature, where the story's value is conflated with its charged price, to the point where people in general can't separate the two. E-pirates tend to view the story as a commodity that is to be taken since it is unobtainable or its charged post is perceived to be too high for monetary payment.
