I've tried Queen Loanna, Foucault's Pendulum and a very small bit of Name of the Rose (by then I was jaded). I always think I should try again, and I probably will this winter when I'm not all work-stressed. We shall see.
And shame, I was gonna mention Queen Loana. Name of the Rose is great but definitely discouraging at first, especially if you refuse to skip entire pages when his tangents get too bad.

I got the furthest into QL, but I got tired. I'm sure there is a kind of flow, but it didn't sync up with mine.
And if they aren't for me, they aren't. I'll read something else.
Does this ever make you depressed?

I don't measure myself against other people by number of books read.

Probably.
It just seems like a shame that you'd figure you like him, and yet don't.

That's a good way of looking at it... a filter to steer people towards the books worth their while.

I do notice the same, but it doesn't make me depressed or ashamed
